[Monday/Tuesday] Unit 3 - Week 2

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

Assignment Steps: 1. Divide into teams of 3-4.

2. Create a 2 room “walking simulator” with the following rules. Use environmental design and props to communicate a story/narrative.

  • Use NO (to very limited) text

  • Use NO (to limited) audio logs

  • Skillfully/subtly use composition and Mise en Scene to direct attention

  • Communicate something about player identity and/or motives

3. Build your prototypes. Prepare to playtest in class.

Please prepare a document for your prototype that addresses the following things:

1. Idea for concept (what is your idea?) - relate to readings

2. Design doc for story premise that has following sections:

a. Story premise

b. Player identity

c. Objects/props of importance

d. Anticipated player flow through environment

3. Include any level design sketches/related documents (if applicable)

Make a folder for your TEAM in the “UNIT 3 Prototype Environment” folder:

  • Upload video/image documentation of prototype working (will be posted on web)

  • Upload narrative documentation

  • Make sure to answer the questions listed above

  • Upload separate Team Narrative that is 1-2 pages long. 1 paragraph should be written by each team member about their contributions

The prototype should be brought to class complete and ready to be playtested.

*Reminder that project documentation should:

  1. Include video/images of game being played

  2. Images of design sketches and assets

  3. Document that describes game and answers questions

  4. Document where everyone on team writes their role

Documentation for both Monday & Tuesday Class: SATURDAY, APRIL 2nd at 11:59pm; we can make small changes to include our findings from the playlist by Wednesday night, but everything else should essentially be already done.

Playtestable world for Monday Class: DUE SUNDAY, APRIL 3rd at 6:00pm
